Published date : 12 June, 2012

HOPES YOUNG PEOPLE WILL BE “ENTHUSED AND INSPIRED” The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, will be joining pupils from schools in Perth as they showcase the very best of the Bank of Scotland National School Sport Week and welcome the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay during a showcase event at the North Inch, Perth today, Tuesday 12 June 2012. Mr Wishart said: “Around 450 pupils from schools in and around Perth and Kinross are coming together for an afternoon of Olympic and Paralympic sport, including football, rowing, athletics and basketball before being joined by a further 500 pupils and many more members of the public to welcome the Olympic Flame to the North Inch.  “I am delighted to join them today in this wonderful celebration of sport and fitness. “The Olympic Games are the premier sporting competition in the world and it is wonderful to be able to join with all these enthusiastic young people to welcome the symbol of the games – the Olympic Flame – to the Fair City of Perth. “I hope that all those who have taken part in School Sport Week and have come along to see the Torch pass through Perthshire, will have been enthused about participating in sport and keeping fit.  Perhaps there will even be some here today who have been so inspired that we will see them in the future standing on a podium with an Olympic medal around their neck.”
