LOCAL POLITICIANS HAIL CURLING WORLD CHAMPIONS

Published date : 25 March, 2013

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, and Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, have congratulated the Scotland women’s curling team and their skip, Eve Muirhead, who comes from Blair Atholl in Mr Wishart’s constituency.

Speaking this morning (Monday) Mr Wishart said:

“It is fantastic to see a Scotland team being crowned world champions and I am absolutely delighted that they have done so under the leadership of one of my constituents.

“Capping off her four wins in five years at Junior level, securing the senior World Championships represents an excellent springboard for the Winter Olympics and is a significant personal achievement as Eve becomes the youngest ever skip to win a World Championship.”

Ms Muirhead curls out of the Perth rink and Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, added:

“I am sure that the whole of Perthshire – indeed the whole country - is very proud of Eve and her team and wish them every success in the future.

“Curling is a fantastic sport – Scottish made and played around the world. I hope that Eve’s success will encourage other young people to take up the sport and that we will see many more Perthshire world champions in the future.”
