SPEAKERS FOR WELFARE CONFERENCE CONFIRMED

Published date : 13 June, 2013

RAISING AWARENESS OF CHANGES “ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL” SAYS WISHART

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perthshire North and North Perthshire has announced the speakers for the Welfare Reform Conference he is hosting in the AK Bell Library on Friday, 21 June.

Speaking today (Thursday) Mr Wishart said:

“This will be the biggest conference on welfare reform that Perth has yet seen and is open to all third sector stakeholders.  It is has been kept free of charge to ensure it is fully inclusive and as many people as possible are encouraged to attend.

“The changes to the welfare system in this country that the Tory-Lib Dem Government are bringing in will have far-reaching consequences and it is important that everyone is prepared for what is coming.

“There is an excellent line up of speakers planned.  We are very lucky to have Neil Couling, Work Services Director from the DWP speaking, as well as Lynn Brady from the PKC Welfare Rights Team and Sandy Watts, from Perth Citizens Advice Bureau.

“The Tories might claim that we ‘are all in it together’ but it is quite clear that their so-called ‘austerity measures’ are hitting hardest at those least able to withstand any further financial pressures.

“Raising as much awareness as possible of the changes and their implications is absolutely essential.”
