WISHART WELCOMES CITY HALL PLAN

Published date : 16 June, 2016

Perth and North Perthshire MP, Pete Wishart has welcomed proposals by Perth and Kinross Council that Perth City Hall is to be transformed into a major tourist attraction which could house the Stone of Destiny.

Mr Wishart welcomed the news that Councillors will be voting on proposals to approach the Commissioners of the Regalia who would take the final decision on the move.

Speaking today, Pete Wishart said:

“Securing the Stone of Destiny and placing it in the old City Hall would be an almost perfect solution to the ongoing saga about the future of the building. It would at a stroke bring this prime piece of our city centre back into use and become a focus for all sorts of city centre activity.

‘This is a great initiative which could prove to be a major attraction for the Fair City. Bringing the Stone back to Perth and placing it in the old City Hall would help with the agenda of getting some real energy into revitalising the city centre.

‘It is important that everyone gets behind this proposal and it is already worrying to see some Scottish Conservatives trying to block the proposals. They will not be forgiven if this proposal is blocked, it is far too important for that.

‘I look forward to working with colleagues to further promote Perth as a cultural destination and I hope that this proposal will really help with our drive to become the City of Culture.”
