LOCAL POLITICIANS WISH INSURANCE GIANT A “HAPPY AVIVA DAY”

Perth's parliamentarians, Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, and Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perth, have wished the staff at Pitheavlis in Perth a very happy Aviva Day as the insurer completes its global branding from Norwich Union to Aviva.

Speaking today (Monday), Roseanna Cunningham said:

“Aviva is the largest insurance provider in the UK, the 5th largest in the world, with a £51billion annual turnover globally.

“With Aviva employing nearly 1600 members of staff in Perth, a number that has more than doubled since the 1998 merger between General Accident and Commercial Union. That shows how important the insurance industry is for Perth.

“Pitheavlis is Aviva’s largest UK General Insurance location outside of Norwich and the site has been selected as the location for three of the company’s UK Centres of Excellence. Perth is clearly important to Aviva, too.

“Aviva is a major global brand and as a company it is ambitious and radical in its thinking both in terms of its plans for future expansion and the way it treats staff and customers.

“The company’s literature asserts its purpose as being the promotion of prosperity and peace of mind and I cannot think of anything better to wish all the staff of Aviva as they mark Aviva Day.”

Pete Wishart continued:

“It is clear to me that there is a real commitment throughout all levels of the company to building a culture where everyone – staff and customers – are treated as individuals.

“With 50 million customers and 54,000 employees across 28 countries that might seem a tall order and they might not always get it right but it is clear that the aspiration is there.

“Aviva is a massively important part of the local Perthshire economy and they put a lot back in to the community, working with schools and raising money for charity.

“As an example of that, I was pleased to learn that across the Aviva workforce in the UK, staff in Tayside clock up a third more volunteering hours per person than even their nearest rival.

“There have been many name changes to contend with over the years for Perth’s link to the insurance industry but this is a big day for Aviva and l wish them all the very best for the future.”
