ARMED FORCES DAY MARCH IN PERTH
Commenting on the events organised in Perth recently to mark the first Armed Forces Day, Pete Wishart, said:
"Armed Forces Day is an important way of showing veterans and serving members of the armed forces the respect and recognition of the community for the service that they have given, and are continuing to give, around the world on our behalf.
"I want to thank everyone involved in the various events, but particularly those veterans who marched. It was great to see Perth giving a big welcome to the soldiers of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, recently returned from tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our thoughts are, of course, with the Black Watch currently in Afghanistan.
"Armed Forces personnel serve our country in all parts of the world, often under very testing and dangerous circumstances and, regretfully, occasionally at terrible cost. Our own Black Watch are, of course, on a tour of duty in Afghanistan right now and I look forward to their return to Scotland and hope that it won't be long before we see them march once more through the streets of Perth.
"The challenges the armed forces face and the roles they play are made a little bit easier when they know that their communities back home are thinking of them and wish them well."
