WISHART AND SWINNEY TO VISIT MOBILE BANK BRANCH AT BLAIR ATHOLL

Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, Mr Pete Wishart, and Member of the Scottish Parliament for North Tayside, Mr John Swinney, will tomorrow [Friday] visit Bank of Scotland’s Mobile Branch at Blair Atholl. The service has recently been improved and visits many of Perthshire’s rural communities.

The parliamentarians will meet with Lynne Noble, Branch Manager, Gordon Russell, driver of the mobile branch and Andy McIver from the Bank’s Public Affairs Department to discuss new the aspects and the future of the service.

Mr Wishart said before the visit:

“It is great to see our more remote and rural communities being bolstered and sustained with access to such vital services. This new mobile branch which will serve customers across some of the most isolated areas in mainland Scotland.

“I believe mobile banking started in the 1940s during the War when field cash offices needed to provide soldiers with the relevant currency of the country in which they were serving. With so many services in recent years being centralised, relocated and outsourced it is heartening to have a regular facility which is still administered in person.

“I am sure that local people will utilise and value this service.”

Mr Swinney added:

“I am delighted the Bank of Scotland has shown such commitment and investment to those in rural Perthshire.

“It is important to remember that it is not only the elderly and disabled who require services closer to home. People from all walks of life who live in rural areas find it difficult, for a multitude of reasons, to make it to the bank. Even though technology has greatly advanced the ease and convenience of personal banking, physical access to cash is still as important to daily life in rural Scotland as ever.

“This secure mobile unit can provide a full-service, fully functional branch to many people who would otherwise struggle to find the time or means to go to a high street branch.

“I would like to thank the Bank of Scotland for inviting us to see the facilities and wish the staff all the best for the future.”
