WISHART URGES LOCAL PARENTS TO ENSURE TAX CREDIT RENEWAL IS IN ORDER
Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, Mr Pete Wishart, is issuing a last minute reminder to all parents in the constituency to renew their Tax Credits by no later than 31 July, otherwise their payments could stop.
Mr Wishart said of the deadline:
“Confusion around Tax Credits often causes many families in Perthshire a lot of distress and financial pressure. It is vital that you deal with your renewal, even if you don't want to claim anymore.
“I have seen countless constituents with a range of problems and predicaments due to the current system. As many local parents know, underpayments and overpayments can lead to significant problems financially and a lot of stress and misery.
“You can make sure you help mitigate the often seemingly unfathomable and unnecessary complexity of the Tax Credit System by ensuring you renew on time. So if you haven’t yet done so please, please make sure your renewal is in order.
“If you are responsible for at least one child or young person who normally lives with you, you may qualify for, the Child Tax Credit. Tax credits are available if you are a low earner, are disabled or have children – they currently benefit around 6 million families in the UK. How much you will receive will depend upon your personal circumstances and income.
“For further information about claiming tax credits go to HMRC’s website www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits or telephone the tax credits helpline on 0845 300 3900, between 8.00am to 8.00pm, seven days a week.”
