LOCAL POLITICIANS WELCOME LOTTERY SPORTS GRANTS

Perth politicians, Mr Pete Wishart MP and Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, have been delighted to learn of successes for local organisations in the second round of funding from the Big Lottery Fund's 2014 Communities programme.

Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Perth constituency, said:

"In my constituency, the Community School of Auchterarder have been awarded £1000 to help support girls' rugby. The grant will fund strips, training equipment and coaching costs. Meanwhile, in Perth itself, Saints Table Tennis Club's grant of £995 will fund the hire of table tennis tables and the services of a senior table tennis coach.

"Both of these projects meet the 2014 Communities aim of encouraging more people take part in sport or physical activity. Sport and physically activities are primarily good fun, they are also good for you and help to build better and safer communities.

"I was delighted to learn of these awards and send my congratulations to everyone involved in both organisations."

The Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, Mr Pete Wishart MP, added his congratulations to Saints Table Tennis Club, saying:

"Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in securing funding in this latest round of awards from the Big Lottery Fund's, 2014 Communities Programme and particular congratulations to the Saints Table Tennis Club in my constituency.

"2014 Communities makes funding available for community groups and organisations to build a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games up and down the country. Small clubs like Saints often miss out on this kind of funding so it is great to see their contribution to the community being recognised.

"It is also great to see lottery money associated with the 2014 Commonwealth Games being channelled down to a real grass roots level of sport in our communities. What a contrast to the way in which the 2012 London Olympics is swallowing up Lottery cassh left, right and centre, leaving grass roots sports and other good causes out in the cold."
