PERTH MP VISITS LOCAL YMCA

Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, paid a visit to Perth YMCA at their premises on Atholl Street, Perth this morning, Thursday 20 August.

During the visit Pete heard a group of the young people giving a short presentation of a project on John Muir which they recently completed following which he presented them with their Certificates of Achievement.

Mr Wishart said:

"The YMCA does a power of work with young people and I was delighted to be here today to hear more about the project they have been carrying out and to present them with these certificates to as recognition of their hard work.

"The project on John Muir reflects the great interest that Perth YMCA as a whole is showing in environmental issues in general."

Mr Wishart was then quizzed by a group of the young people on Climate Challenge policies. The group are currently involved in a project funded by the Climate Challenge Fund and are making a range of Energy Awareness films.

Mr Wishart continued:

"I recently sent my congratulations to Perth YMCA for securing an award of over £120,000 from the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund and it is clear from everything I have heard this morning that the money is being very well spent.

"The interest in - and knowledge of - climate change and other environmental issues shown by all of the young people I met was impressive and I wish everyone involved with Perth YMCA all the best for the future."
