TWO BLACK WATCH SOLDIERS KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

Perth politicians Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire and Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perth have expressed their sadness tonight at the news that two soldiers from the Black Watch have been killed in a roadside bomb while on patrol in Afghanistan. No personal information has yet been released regarding the soldiers who have been killed but the Black Watch has very close links to Perth and to Perthshire.

Ms Cunningham said:

"This sad news will be felt very deeply throughout Scotland and particularly so in Perthshire which has such close ties with the Black Watch. My thoughts and prayers are with those families who are now grieving, the soldiers of the Black Watch who have lost comrades and those whose concern for loved ones in Afghanistan will have been heightened by this latest loss of life."

Mr Wishart said:

"These two latest fatalities bring the number of UK forces personnel killed since operations began in 2001 to 210. Each and every one of those represents a huge loss and my deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and colleagues of the two soldiers whose deaths we mourn today. The Black Watch is synonymous with Perthshire and the whole county will be in shock as a result of this news."
