WISHART COMMENTS ON ALCOHOL-FUELLED CRIME FIGURES


Commenting on figures for Tayside which show 86 assaults in or around licensed premises during the year, Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart said:

“Perth has an excellent city centre and a welcoming hospitality culture – however that does not mean we are exempt from the alcohol-fuelled crime and disorder that can ruin pubs and clubs and put people off a night out.

“Pubs and clubs who report incidents to the police do their job well and I know no proprietor wants their bar associated with violence or trouble. Tackling this problem requires police and licensed premises working together - it also means taking action over Scotland’s relationship with alcohol

“These figures show that tackling Scotland’s relationship with the bottle is not just a matter of improving our health, it is about improving our safety and letting our police do the job we all want them to do to keep us safe.”
