LOCAL POLITICIANS WELCOME LOTTERY CASH AWARDS

Perth parliamentarians, Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perth and Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth and North Perthshire, have welcomed news of funding awards secured by Perth & Kinross Association of Voluntary Services and Perth Grammar School.

Mr Wishart said:

"The Big Lottery Fund's 2014 Communities programme makes funding available for community groups and organisations to build a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games up and down the country and I am delighted that two recent funding awards have been made for projects in my constituency. Well done to PKAVS and Perth Grammar.

"Unlike the London Olympics which are sucking lottery money away from local communities and grassroots sports, this programme is ensuring that the 2014 Commonwealth Games bound for Glasgow is actually encouraging and enabling more people around the country to take part in sport or other physical activity."

Roseanna Cunningham added:

"Congratulations to those who put together the lottery bids from PKAVS and Perth Grammar. It is great to see minority sports and non-competitive physical activity receiving this kind of support. If this funding programme delivers on its ambition to support and stimulate grass roots involvement in sport and physical activity that will be a great legacy both to the future of sport in this country and the general health and well-being of our people.

"I am a big fan of walking, as a leisure pursuit and as good exercise so I am particularly pleased that the grant for PKAVS will help promote and publicise walking as well as funding the training of walk leaders."
