PERTH POLITICIANS WELCOME FUNDING SUCCESS FOR NEW PKAVS PROJECT

Perth parliamentarians, Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth, and Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perth, have welcomed the news that Perth & Kinross Association of Voluntary Services have recently been successful in applying to Big Lottery Funds Investing in Communities for a 259,569 grant.

Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Services' MEAD project will develop a new central support agency for migrant workers and established minority ethnic communities in the region.

Roseanna Cunningham said:

"This is great news for PKAVS and I am sure that the project they plan to develop will of great benefit to all in the Perth and Kinross. We have welcomed migrant workers as well as more established ethnic communities from around the world to Perthshire. They have a lot to contribute but it can be hard for them dealing with new customs, new rules, a different language and culture.

"So this new service will encourage, develop and co-ordinate consultation between service providers and targeted minority ethnic communities to ensure statutory and voluntary services better meet service users needs as well as enabling and empowering individuals to actively contribute to the development of services."

Mr Wishart continued:

"This project will be an excellent addition to the wonderful work that PKAVS already does supporting and assisting a wide range of groups within our society, particularly those who are most disadvantaged.

"A quarter of a million pounds is a significant sum of money, well done to everyone who has been involved in preparing the bid for this funding and I wish them every success with the new project as it comes on stream."
