WISHART IN LAST MINUTE APPEAL FOR COUNCILLORS TO STAND UP, BE COUNTED AND RID THE CITY OF THIS INCINERATOR THREAT

Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart, has today [Monday] called on members of Perth and Kinross Council’s Development Control Committee to ensure that the threat posed by the proposed incinerator is killed off by supporting revocation of the original planning permission.

Speaking on the issue, Mr Wishart said:

“At this meeting, our councillors can rid us of the threat posed by this incinerator monstrosity by supporting the revocation of the original decision to agree to the incinerator in principle.

“They must be brave, stand up and be counted and make the right decision in ridding the city of the threat posed by this incinerator.

“By turning it down on the limited “reserved powers” they will simply be taking responsibility out of the council’s hands and allowing someone else make the decision about Perth’s future. This is not the right thing to do and the council must accept its responsibility on this issue

“It was the council’s officers that made the catastrophic decision to grant this monstrosity outline planning by agreeing to it in principle. Councillors must now put right that appalling decision by supporting revoking the original outline planning permission.

“We cannot play poker with Perth’s future by taking a chance on winning this on appeal. We must put the stake through the heart of this proposal by revoking the original consent. I hope my council colleagues make the right decision.”
