WISHART TO ATTEND LAUNCH OF NEW CNC GLASS PROCESSING CENTRE

Member of Parliament for Perth and Perthshire, Mr Pete Wishart, is tomorrow, [Friday] joining a number of local dignitaries and guests to officially launch Perth firm, Spectraglass’ new CNC Glass Processing Centre.

Mr Wishart said before the event:

“Perthshire has a proud history of manufacturing, but it is a fact of modern Scotland that it our manufacturing base is shrinking.

“I therefore warmly congratulate Spectraglass on making this significant investment during the current tough economic climate.

“I am particularly pleased to note that Spectraglass has carried forward the long standing tradition of glass making and processing in Perth through its bold and innovative approach to manufacturing”

Mr Gordon Dow, Chairman of Spectraglass explained the rationale for this strategic investment:

“This machine represents a significant investment by the company and is seen by the directors as paving the way for the planned future expansion of the business. The machine will enable the company to handle and process multiple client orders in a fraction of the time taken today.

“The substantial benefits of automation have already been seen following earlier investments in CNC machinery for cutting, water jetting, sandblasting and toughening operations. This particular investment is, however, significantly greater and reflects the importance attached to modernising our production processes in order to be able to compete cost effectively in our global markets

Mr Dow stated that the company hopes to shortly invest in a chemical toughening machine:

“This will be the first such machine in the UK and will further extend the company’s capabilities and open up new market opportunities.

“I would very much like to give my thanks and appreciation to a number of local organisations, including Perth & Kinross Council, Scottish Enterprise, The Royal Bank of Scotland and First Independent Finance for their valued support. Without this support we would not have been able to make this important investment”
