LOCAL POLITICIANS WELCOME POSITIVE ATTITUDE ON JOBS FROM AVIVA BOSS

Published date : 25 June, 2012

The Scottish National Party’s Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, and Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, have welcomed comments from the head of Aviva’s general insurance business in which he says that the company could soon be employing twice as many staff in Perth as it did during its heyday as a base for General Accident.

Commenting on Mr McMillan’s remarks, Ms Cunningham said:

“It is really good to hear a senior executive from one of Perth’s major employers talking so positively about the future.

“I am really pleased that Mr McMillan is so confident about the possibility of a seriously significant increase in job numbers and I look forward to that potential being realised.

“Such an increase would be very welcome news indeed in these difficult economic times.

“I have seen many changes and ups and downs at Pitheavlis since the days of General Accident and it really is noteworthy that we are talking about the possibility that we could see job numbers reaching double what they were then.

“There really is no doubt that the city of Perth is a fantastic place to do business and it is pleasing to see Aviva recognise that and express such confidence in the future.”

Mr Wishart continued:

“The insurance industry has always been an important employer in Perth and Roseanna and I meet on a regular basis with Aviva management to keep ourselves informed.

“It is excellent news that the continued strong performance of Aviva’s UK General Insurance business which is centred at Pitheavlis is being refected in predictions of growth for the future.

“I hope that it won’t be too long before we can welcome the news of those predictions becoming a reality.”
