WISHART PRAISES ROYAL MAIL’S CHRISTMAS DELIVER OPERATIONS

Published date : 07 December, 2012

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire paid an early visit this morning to the Perth sorting office at Breadalbane Terrace, Perth, where he met with Ian Jamieson, Delivery Office Manager to discuss the Royal Mail’s Christmas delivery operations.

Speaking after his visit, Mr Wishart said:

“It was very interesting to meet with Ian Jamieson, to discuss the Royal Mail’s Christmas delivery operations and indeed to see it in action.

“We often take the Royal Mail for granted but the sheer scale of the number of items of post that they handle in the run up to Christmas is astonishing.

“Making sure all our presents and cards get delivered on time is a massive logistical operation and at this time of year. in particular, we all owe a huge vote of thanks to the Royal Mail and its employees.

“And as internet shopping increases many of us will be very aware of the difference that the Universal Service Obligation makes, meaning that it doesn’t matter where in the country your home is or how remote you are, the Royal Mail will deliver – and for the same price as anywhere else.”
