LOTTERY CASH FOR LOCAL SPORTS PROJECTS WELCOMED

Perthshire politicians have welcomed the news that a range of local organisations have been successful in securing funding of over £6,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme to support sports projects.

Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, said:

“The awards to the Community School of Auchterarder, Braco Parent Council and Letham Sports Club will help young people in communities across my constituency participate in sport.

“I am pleased to note that a range of sports has been represented in these awards and I know that all the organisations involved will put these additional resources to very good use.”

Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire welcomed the funds for Letham Sports Club and Scone Thistle from his constituency, saying:

“Letham Sports Club and Scone Thistle are both fantastic community clubs doing a lot of great work with the young people in their areas. This money will help them continue that invaluable investment in local youngsters.

“Participation in team sports is a fantastic way for young people to keep fit, build teamwork skills and use their time productively.”

Mr John Swinney MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire North, added his congratulations, saying:

“Scone Thistle Community Club have done really well to secure this funding by qualifying with their new soccer school for younger kids.

“Every opportunity to encourage our young people engage more with sport and physical activity is to be welcomed so well done to all involved in this successful bid.”
