TRIBUTES PAID TO DAVE SCOTT, FORMER DEPUTY PROVOST

Published date : 28 September, 2013

The Scottish National Party's Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, and Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, have paid tribute to former Perth & Kinross Deputy Provost, Dave Scott, who passed away this morning after a lengthy illness.

Ms Cunningham said:

"I am truly sorry to hear of Dave Scott's passing.  Dave was a real stalwart of the SNP in Perthshire and he will be truly missed by those who worked with him, those he represented and indeed those he jousted with in the council chamber.

"His local community of Tulloch was very dear to him and I know he counted it as a great privilege to be able to represent them on the Council for as long as he did.  Anyone who ever canvassed with Dave - or, indeed, just tried to walk the length of the High Street by his side - was very soon aware how well-known and widely-liked he was.

"Dave was a kind and caring man with a ready stream of awful jokes.  I will miss him deeply and I send my heartfelt condolences to his family who are in my prayers today."

Mr Wishart added:

"There is no doubt that the SNP in Perthshire owes a great debt of gratitude to Dave and others of his generation whose hard work and commitment to the cause helped to lay the foundations for the successes that we now enjoy.

"Dave Scott was a legend in Perth politics and he will be remembered with great fondness by all who met him.  A larger-than-life character his passing will leave a big hole in the lives of those who loved him the most.

"He had been unwell for some time but it is a real shock to learn that he is no longer with us.  I was very sorry to hear this news and I extend my sympathy to his family."
