WISHART WELCOMES LAUNCH OF VOLUNTEERING SUPPORT FUND ROUND 2

Published date : 19 September, 2013

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, has welcomed the news that the Voluntary Action Fund (VAF) has launched the second round of two grant programmes to support third sector organisations with an income under £250,000 to assist them in creating new or enhanced volunteering projects.

Speaking today (Wednesday) Mr Wishart said:

“These grants aim to increase the diversity of volunteers and improve opportunities for skills and personal development through volunteering.  The grants will also support third sector organisations to enhance their services and improve their capacity to deploy, support and train volunteers.

“I have no doubt that there are groups in my constituency who could make good use of a Volunteering Support Grant providing up to £10,000 to support organisations to improve and develop their capacity to involve volunteers who are experiencing disadvantage.

“Meanwhile there is up to £30,000 available through what they call the Volunteering Support Cluster to fund the employment of a Volunteer Coordinator/Manager, to work across a ‘Cluster’ of third sector organisations, to develop volunteering for people experiencing disadvantage.

“Volunteering is hugely important to the way in which our communities function and thrive so it is really good that the Scottish Government is making money available to help in this way.”
