WISHART COMMENTS ON PLANNED POST OFFICE MOVE

Published date : 11 October, 2013

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, has learned that the Post Office are proposing a partnership with WHSmith and move Perth’s Crown Post Office from its current location to the High Street premises of WHSmith.

Speaking this afternoon (Friday) Mr Wishart said:

“I am very disappointed to have been informed this morning that the Post Office intend to go ahead with their plans to franchise out the provision Perth’s Crown Post Office, that a firm proposal has been made and that the plans include a change of location and a reduction in the number of public counters.

“I really do feel that this is an utterly wrong-headed decision. The South Street premises are well located, well used and I cannot for the life of me see WHSmith giving over anything like the level of floor space that is currently available.

“This decision by the Post Office is disrespectful to the City of Perth and can only, in my opinion, result in a significant reduction in service for the people of Perth.

“I note that they are inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the proposed move in a six-week public consultation, starting this Monday, 14 October and I would urge everyone in Perth who has concerns about this plan to contribute to that consultation.”
