WISHART WELCOMES REPORTS THAT FOOD HALL “PIE IN THE SKY PLANS” TO BE REFUSED

Published date : 04 December, 2013
Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, has welcomed reports that a report from independent property experts said the sole bid to re-develop Perth City Halls did not meet the eligibility criteria and so officials from Perth & Kinross Council are once more recommending that the City hall building should be demolished.

Speaking today (Wednesday) Mr Wishart said:

“I fully understand the attachment that many people feel towards this building but I welcome the suggestions that so-called food hall bid is going to be recommended for refusal after the independent report into its viability highlighted lack of detail in its business case and funding arrangements.

“These food hall plans were never anything other than pie in the sky.  The time for unworkable, fanciful schemes is over, the people of Perth deserve a clear way forward and the to-ing and fro-ing over the future of a building whose time has past must come to an end.

“As the recent Christmas events show, we need a usable civic space to host year round outdoor activitie and Historic Scotland must now allow the Council to put in place its ambitious city square plans and carry out the rejuvenation that this part of the city sorely needs.”
