Published date : 12 June, 2014

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perthshire South & North Perthshire, and Mr John Swinney MP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire North, were delighted to learn that the Dunkeld and Birnam Playgroup in their constituencies have recently been successful in applying to Communities and Family Fund, securing a £8,275 grant. With this grant the group will be able to renew its educational toys and play equipment and provide a secure place to store them. This will enable them to continue to provide early years support to more children across a broader range of activities, including music, drama, arts and crafts, storytelling, and outside play The Communities and Families Fund is set to run over the next three years with £4.5 million from The Scottish Government and £1.5 million from the Big Lottery Fund. The £6 million fund offers grassroots projects the chance to get funding of between £250 and £10,000. This fund is focused on improving early learning, health and wellbeing for children under eight years old by supporting them, their families and communities. Congratulating the group, Mr Wishart said: “A big well done to everyone involved in securing this sizeable grant.  I have no doubt that the money will be put to very good use indeed and will be of real benefit to the bairns of Birnam and Dunkeld.” John Swinney added: “Congratulations to Dunkeld and Birnam Playgroup on this substantial award of funding. This money will directly translate into better educational and play experiences for local youngsters and this is really good news. “Here in Scotland we appreciate how very important the early years are and the need to intensively support this stage of development in a range of ways. This investment in Dunkeld and Birnam Playgroup is entirely in step with this priority.”
