COLD WEATHER CONCERNS:  WISHART PRAISES ROAD CLEARING TEAMS AND HIGHLIGHTS COLD WEATHER PAYMENTS

Published date : 03 February, 2015

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire paid a visit recently to employees of Tayside Contracts working out of the Blair Atholl depot to find out more about the work they do in clearing Perthshire’s roads.

Mr Wishart said:

“The team at Blair Atholl cover all of Northern Perthshire and they have really been doing a good job at keeping Perthshire's roads clear in the snowy and icy weather.

“Of course roads get closed and the weather beats us or catches us out sometimes but these are the guys who head out with their gritters and snow ploughs to clear the roads when all the rest of us want to do is have a hot drink in front of a warming fire.

“It spent a really interesting time with the Blair Atholl roads team and I want to palce on record my gratitude for the extremely difficult job they do.”

Continuing the cold weather theme, Mr Wishart highlighted the fact that a DWP Cold Weather Payment has been triggered on the 28/1/2015 by the Braemar weather station for eligible residents in the PH10, PH11, PH18  Postcode districts.

Mr Wishart said:

Cold Weather Payments are made from the Social Fund to certain recipients of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit or Pension Credit

“Payments are made automatically to those entitled to them. There should be no need to make a claim, but people who think they may be entitled but do not receive a payment should contact the Department for Work and Pensions.”
