Funding of up to £1 million available for organisations in Perth and North Perthshire

Published date : 29 March, 2019

Perth and North Perthshire MP, Pete Wishart, has encouraged Perthshire community groups to apply to The National Lottery Community Fund - Community Asset Programme before time runs out. Through the Community Asset Programme, local groups can apply for funding from £10,000 to £1 million to create strong and resilient communities through assets.

The National Lottery have announced a deadline of 4th October 2019 for initial applications to the Community Asset programme, after which this stream of funding will close to new applications.

Encouraging groups to apply, Mr Wishart said:

“Any community groups who are thinking of developing community owned projects should get in touch with The National Lottery Community Fund as soon as they can. This stream of funding, which could offer as much as £1 million to the right project, will be closing for new applications at the beginning of October, so it is important to get the ball rolling soon.

“Having assets which are managed and owned by the community can have huge social, environmental and economic benefits for the community. In some areas, communities have built new halls and sports facilities. In some rural areas, the locals have decided to start a community owned shop or Post Office.

“Having these facilities owned by the community means that people have a greater investment in them and gives greater control over the future of the asset. Unlike a commercially owned asset, it is less likely that a developer will come in and simply close the facility -especially if that is not what the community want.

“Anyone who is interested in the programme should have an initial informal chat with The Community Fund team on 0300 123 7110 or they can email [email protected] .”
