Wishart visits Aviva following jobs announcement

Published date : 07 June, 2019

Perth and North Perthshire MP, Pete Wishart, has visited Aviva at their Pitheavlis building in Perth following the announcement of 1,800 job losses worldwide. Aviva have announced plans to separate the general insurance arm from the area of the business that deals exclusively with life insurance.

Mr Wishart met with David Skinn, Distribution Director for Aviva, at the company’s offices in his Perth constituency, to seek reassurances about jobs locally.

Speaking today (7th June), Mr Wishart said:

After hearing the news that Aviva plan to cut jobs from the business globally, I was keen to meet with senior management at Aviva as soon as possible to discuss what this means for Perth. We know that Aviva are such an important local employer and I wanted to meet with management as soon as possible to talk about the importance of maintaining staffing levels here in Perth.

“Aviva have reassured me that as far as possible they will seek to achieve a reduction in posts through natural attrition and not redundancies. They are also keen to stress that any reduction in posts are group wide and they will not be targeting specific sites in terms of cost-savings.

“I know how important the Pitheavlis site is to Aviva and I do not doubt their commitment to their staff in Perthshire. I look forward to working with management, staff and unions going forward to secure these valuable jobs in Perthshire.”
