WISHART WELCOMES NEW MEASURES TO CLAMPDOWN ON ROGUE PARKING FIRMS

Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, has welcomed the introduction of new measures to clampdown on rogue parking firms after the UK Government revealed its new Private Parking Code of Practice.

The policy comes after widespread and longstanding complaints over private parking firms using ruthless tactics which has left motorists with excessive fines.

Commenting, Mr Wishart said:

I am delighted to hear about the new Code of Practice being introduced to cap private parking fines at £50 in most cases. This is a much needed and long overdue policy to stop private parking firms from exploiting motorists through hostile and ugly operations.

“Smart Parking in particular has caused much misery to residents and visitors in my constituency and I have dealt with hundreds of complaints regarding this matter over the years. I have been involved with this bill from start to finish so it is fantastic to finally have the outcome my constituents have been calling for.

“The Code of Practice also includes a ban on excessive debt collection fees for late tickets, a 10-minute grace period for motorists, and a requirement for parking firms to disclose their terms and conditions more clearly. I hope and expect for these measures to mark the end of these crooked  fines once and for all.

“In these financially challenging times, these measures will mean people have one less thing to worry about.”
