Wishart meets Perth Amnesty group to discuss range of human rights issues

Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, attended Perth Amnesty’s AGM on Thursday 09 February to discuss several of their current campaigns relating to human rights abuses across the globe. The issues discussed included women’s rights in Afghanistan and alleged killings and enforced disappearances in the Pakistani region of Balochistan.

Commenting, Mr Wishart said:

“It was great to meet with Perth Amnesty for their AGM where we discussed a range of human rights issues happening around the world.

“There was a particular focus on women’s rights in Afghanistan and what more the UK Government could be doing to challenge the Taliban’s increasingly barbaric policies.

“I will be raising the issues discussed with the UK Government and look forward to maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the group throughout their current and future campaigns.”
