Wishart reinforces ABI’s advice for holidaymakers

Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, has urged constituents who had or may have their holiday arrangements affected by the wildfires and continued heatwave across southern Europe to follow the advice issued by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) on how Travel Insurance can support them if they are impacted by these events.

The information can be found here: www.abi.org.uk/products-and-issues/choosing-the-right-insurance/travel-guide/2023-european-heatwave/ which also includes advice on some common questions holidaymakers may have.

Commenting, Mr Wishart said:

“As extreme weather conditions in southern Europe continue, it is so important for holidaymakers to ensure they are up to date with the latest information and guidance.

“I urge my constituents with holidays booked to any of the affected regions to weigh-up various factors as to whether they proceed with their plans. For those who go or are already there, the insurance industry body ABI has issued some helpful guidance for what to do if you are affected by the wildfires.

“Above all, people should follow local health advice and stay safe.”

Notes:

ABI advice to any constituents that are affected by the wildfires is to:

  • Contact their tour operator or airline for advice and information.
  • Always follow local health advice, such as dealing with heatwaves. Your travel insurance will apply in the usual way if you need emergency medical treatment due to extreme weather.
  • If planning on travelling, always keep up to date with and follow the latest foreign travel advice on GOV.UKfrom the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), especially as travelling against it is likely to invalidate your travel insurance.
  • Check the scope of cover under their travel insurance policy. In some circumstances
